1980 A hurricane struck the Aleutian Islands with winds in excess of 110 mph. It was declared a disaster area after homes and public buildings were destroyed (some were blown into the sea). A specialized portable housing facility (60 residents) for Amoco Exploration was subjected to the ferocity of this storm. The AKS facility survived the hurricane unscathed! Result: FEMA purchased our specialized portable housing units for familes who lost their homes.
1983 Mobile housing facility for hydrology study in Saudi Arabia.
1985 Specialized portable High Sierra Ski Lodges. Alaska tough- one lodge withstood being buried beneath 10 feet of snow.
1986 Prince William Sound Aquaculture on Ester Island, Alaska. Hatchery enclosures meeting a snow load of 125 lbs. per square foot.
1986 60-person incarceration facility installed in the hot Nevada desert. Facility has been in place for well over 10 years without a repair made to date.
1988 Red Dog Zinc Mine. Complete housing for 400 people in comfort year-round (wind chills at -80 degrees F above Arctic Circle). This was a turnkey project, including sleeping quarters, kitchen/dining, lavatories, sewage treatment plant, warehouses and shops.
1990 Red Dog Zinc Mine. Longest fabric structure in the world covers mile-long conveyer.
1991 Eielson Air Force Base. Fairbanks, Alaska, (-50 degrees Fahrenheit), AKS specialized shop/warehouse building. Specifications: Windload of 90 mph with a snowload of 40 #psf. During the winter of 1992, many conventional structures lost their roofs or had severe structural damage. The AKS structure carried the loads and incurred no damage.
1991 Supplied US Army and Air Force during Desert Storm.
1992-1998 Provided shelters for various mining projects throughout Chile, Argentina and Peru. These were all supplied for high altitude applications.
1993 TRW Hunter Project. Provided mobile maintenance facilities for the US Army UAV program.
1995 Far East Gold. Provided this large mining company with a 60-person housing facility for use in the demanding weather conditions of Sibera.
1996 Supplied hundreds of personnel and family housing for United Nation personnel for peacekeeping mission in Angola.
1997 Alyeska Pipeline. Placed nine structures along the TransAlaska pipeline in sub-zero conditions.
1998 Alaska Department of Corrections. Supplied several buildings to be used to house inmates, due to overcrowding in prisons.
1999 Designed exclusively for NATO's defense of Bosnia, these units were designed to withstand winds of over 115 mph.
1998 Alaska Structures was awarded a multi-milllion dollar Requirements contract from the US Air Force for the production of a new generation of small personnel and office deployable shelter systems. The AKSS* is a portable, state-of-the-art system including shelter, electrical/lighting, Environmental Control Units, and storage/shipping containers. These advanced shelters will eventually replace the outdated 20-year old TEMPER systems, but are flexibly designed for connectability to the old system.
1999 At the request of the US Air Force Medical Corp., AK Structures adapted the highly successful AK Small Shelter design into a new medical shelter system. This modular complexing system can be used for all medical requirements including surgical arenas.
